I wanted to explore how the way I used a pencil and added shading would affect my drawings. I used family members to test this idea out. Each drawing was created in a different colour and the pencil is used in a slightly different way. In the purple drawing of my Mum I only shaded in a diagonal from top right to bottom left, which draws the eye in the same direction. My Grandad is in blue, and I coloured in a circular manner. This makes the drawing feel full and allows you to take it in as a whole, with the pencil strokes directing you to all parts of the image. You may notice some pink accents around the glasses which were unintentional, as the white pen used as a highlight reacted with the blue pencil. However, I really like the result, and think it elevates the piece.
The drawing of my Boyfriend in red, again was done using diagonal strokes, this time from top left to bottom right. It draws the eye in the same direction as the stroke, and follows his hair downward. Next is my Nan in orange crosshatch, which was an interesting journey as it was a lot more difficult to add the level of detail I wanted to achieve. However I am happy with the end result. Finally, my Dad in green. For this piece I shaded in both diagonal directions which gives a smooth finish.
