This painting was the test run for my final piece in my GCSE Art exam. It was painted using gouache and the final large scale version was created over two days. Unfortunately I do not have a photo of the actual final painting as I was not allowed to take one due to it being my exam submission.
This project was based on the given theme of 'Layers'. I applied the idea to bathymetry and the difference a body of water can hold within itself. After investigating some artists like Sebastian Giacobino and Zandraart I settled on an ocean scene with three layers. The top depicts a man in a boat on what appears to be calm water. Below the surface is a layer full of leaves and fish with movement and life. However, in the depths is a giant octopus, looming - an hidden danger to the man.
